If you haven’t yet experienced the Hargrave Arcade you are for sure missing out. This is one of those random, small time events that could easily slip right by you. Trey, the founder of Hargrave Arcade, lives in a small house in East Austin. Once a month he transforms his house into the Hargrave Arcade. The rooms inside are invaded by Foosball tables, TVs, vintage arcade games. Every brightly painted room you walk into it has several fully grown people wandering around, jaws dropped, drooling, excited to see their favorite childhood games all in one place! Outside in the backyard, which seems to be holding all Trey’s living room furniture, is a place for bands to play as well as large projection screen for movies.
Visitors to the Arcade pay $10 to get in and receive in return free beer and drinks, vegan food, unlimited plays at any of the games in the arcade as well as the chance to listen to some local bands and watch a classic movie on the big screen!
When I visited Saturday night I was in for all sorts of treats. Free beer, check. Free popcorn, check. Watching epic foosball matches, check. Karate Kid Part II, check! Listening to the Wax, yes! Listening to Loves it!, yes! And the most ridiciulous, totally cheesy treat of all, listening to The Karate Kids. Every song is Karate Kid themed, except one where they changed the words of “I’ll stop the world and melt with you” to be a song about cheese. But pictures are worth a 1000 words. Check this out:
Best band costumes ever.
100% of your $10 entry fee to the Hargrave Arcade goes to a charity of Trey’s choice. Do it.
