I am a Reading Fool

No, really it’s true. When I was a kid my dad used to go to Barnes & Noble every Sunday to pick up the Sunday edition of the New York Times. While he was there he would also pick me up a new book. This was heaven. As time passed though he would get annoyed because I’d have the book read by Monday or Tuesday and be begging to be brought to the library or another bookstore. How was he supposed to keep me in books if I devoured them like Halloween candy?

Dang, candy bowl!

When I was high school I loved both making and collecting purses. The minimum requirement of any purse or bag was that it could carry a book (and not just small dime store books, full size please). I even had a great Army jacket that I wore everywhere (Hey, if Lindsay in Freaks and Geeks did it and looked cool I figured I could too.) and the best part about it is the pockets could easily carry a book.

Why did this look not work as well for me?…

Now, I am not quite the reading fool I once was. Between working, keeping up with my tv shows and socializing, it’s hard to keep up with all the books I want to read. They’re staring at me as we speak from my bookshelf…

Can you feel their eyes?

But lately I have been devouring books like… glasses of wine. I sip and savor them but move through them more quickly than I should. I hope you can relate.

Here’s a sampling over the last few weeks:

The Blind Assassin

This book took me a while to get into but it was completely worth it once I did. Highly recommend it!

Cloud Atlas

It’s coming out as a movie with Tom Hanks and Halle Berry soon. I am intrigued… (sidenote: and the book is genius and amazing).

Outer Banks (A strange man on the ferry to Haines, Alaska gave it to me. Don’t judge me and definitely don’t read it.)

Better than I thought it might be; however, not good enough.

Juliet, Naked

Verdict still out but so far so good

And the cherry on top? The proof that I am truly a reading fool? I once thought it would be cool to get a tattoo like this:

It’s okay. I’m judging me too right now for this.
