I am one of those people who love the previews. If I’m going to miss the previews of the movie, I might as well not go. Well, not quite but pretty close!
If you live in Austin, you are familiar with the Violet Crown Cinema and Alamo Drafthouse Theaters. Neither of these movie theaters play a lot of previews. I’m talking two or three tops! While it’s nice to not have to watch thirty minutes of previews and commercials before you finally get to watch your movie, I actually really miss it. Sometimes it’s the best part! At least if you make poor movie choices like I do.
So now, I’ve developed a new habit. I watch movie trailers online. Like thirty minutes of movie trailers. This is one of my guilty pleasure habits. Alaskan boy makes fun but totally gets sucked in to watching them with me. Who wouldn’t? That’s the whole point right? They’re these very short montages that literally make you want more.
Watching movie trailers is such a very basic thing but in my mind they’re akin to flash fiction. They’re tiny bits of art that, if well crafted, still stir up your emotions. You’re left laughing, tearful, scared, whatever. It seems ridiculous but all of this have felt this way. “I can’t see that movie- too scary.” It was only one minute and thirty seconds long but you’re already checking the behind the doors in your house! So now when to feel something, to get excited about the world at large, I watch a few movie trailers. Here are the ones that peaked my interest recently.
And most of all, this one. This one makes my heart ache.
